LINES AND VERSES

First, meet radiohead. He has his ears buried under two large earphones, he nods absently - it takes tapping, even shaking, to bring him to the present. Lost in his to the music world. He is the vulcanizer. I pulled over a while ago to fix a punctured tyre. I soon discover I am with a half-nut case, the sound that filters out is so disturbing you'd wonder if He heard at all. Propelled by the music, he treated the tyre in double-quick time, but he has to swap the tyres since I have been on my spare. He got the jack and spanner, lifted the car and removed the spare but was too engrossed with his music to properly wadge the car. As soon as he turns for the other tyre, the car slips and - gwashhh! That's when she appears; an old gentle lady, scarf-clad head and wrinkled skin. First, she swiftly finds grabs a stone to wedge one of the tyres so it doesn't roll again, then she offers me a seat to sit down - I declined, while radiohead finds a fix for the jack which is damage...

When a natural disater like this strikes, it is the tiny details that i tend to relate with rather than the sheer, often urgly, size. This is so, not just because it highlights our vulnerability and helpless before the lurid antics of nature; it brings to bare the the rapidity at which human sophistication can fold back to the basics.  The continuing flooding of large areas of land across Nigeria is quite phenomenal in both size and destruction, but nothing is more striking to me than the duggedness of the victims in the face of such wanton display. You'd see people paddling canoe through, now inuandated, streets they once walked and worked and took life a little less seriously, houses sitting tight in water to drive home the fact they are mere inanimates and could do nothing their owners couldn't, children swimming and splashing in the same water that has rendered them refugees. Watching from the comfort of my home - safty of my tv set - i tried to imaging my couch soaked...

Faithfulness in a relationship is not about your faith or religion, but a personal resolve to stay true to a partner in spite of other distractions. It is about the will of an individual; unwavering and undivided. I emphasize on the will or mind because some of the greatest battles of man are fought in the mind, once the mind is defeated; the physical fight becomes a mere exercise of muscles. The habit of staying faithful to a single partner though can start at anytime but is best started before one is committed for the long run. One must learn to content one’s desires with a single partner. People who double date for fun, or care less about commitment in their youth may find it difficult to stay with any single partner at any given time, those who indulge in lustful and carefree philosophies would have developed a mindset that does not permit commitment.
